Director: Is the overall head of production in a film and is responsible for the outcome of the film. They guide the actors through the scenes and ensures that everyone is doing their jobs. Creatively their job is to keep the productions artistic vision alive. Pre-production they discuss their creative vision with the rest of the team. Make casting choices and assemble the team. Post-production, they give notes to their editors and make sure the productions creative vision is seen through.

Assistant director: Is the director’s right hand person; without a good assistant the production falls apart. They are the voice of the set and is responsible for maintaining order. They coordinate day to day activities on set such as managing schedules and determining what is needed on set. Importantly they are responsible for the health and safety of the crew.

Director of photography: They are in charge of everything that is on frame. They read the screenplay and work closely with the director to discuss the look of the film. Discussing special camera moves, focus pulls and camera pulls are planned. It is their job to make sure every shot is usable and flag them if they are not. They also manage what equipment should be used such as cameras, dolly’s, rig’s and lenses.

1st assistant director: Here I am as the 1st assistant director. My job was to call the shots and to get the rest of the crew ready to start shooting. The clapperboard I was using is used to sync the audio and video during post production.

Sound technician: I worked with the script supervisor and logged each audio recording in the logging sheet to help during post production. I had to make sure the recording device was working correctly, adjusting the levels if needed and making sure the audio recording was clean with no interference. A key thing was to make sure I was as close to the subject as possible without being in the shot itself.

Script supervisor: Here my role was to log various aspects of the shots. The time, scene, shot and take are all logged so the editors know which files to work with. The shot type, description and audio file are also recorded so that everyone on set is on the same page. comments are also added so that everyone knows why shots were successful or not.
