Task 2: Group Goals & Performance

How did you get agreement about the way forward during the exhibition unit?

There are many strong personalities present in my class. Sometimes ideas and intentions can clash leading to a slightly sour atmosphere to participate in. Nevertheless I was accommodative to people’s ideas and suggestions. I assisted people both physically and mentally. Online, the collaborative Google doc helped me not overstep my role too much as I get easily distracted. When I was happy with my piece of work being exhibited, I made myself available to help with little things, such as putting up informational posters for the people viewing the exhibition.

How did the discussion about the subject inform how you made decisions?

Workshopping ideas and a plan for the exhibition online was an interesting way of learning about my classmates personalities. I identified three distinct ways of thinking. People who had a lot of initial excitement, people who put in effort towards the end, and people who consistently worked within the timeframe. As I was not present in all the classes I took on more of a supportive/admin role. I was able to avoid a lot of stress and conflict this way.

How did you gain agreement (or not) How did this change how effective the group was?

The amount of people physically working together as a team fluctuated a lot. Therefore diminishing the overall effectiveness of the group. Stronger personalities worked and worried on their own pieces more than they cared about the exhibition as a whole. Many not even showing up on the opening day. I focussed more on making the people viewing the exhibition life’s easier, by putting relevant information in strategic places and making the space as a whole more comfortable to be in.
